I don't know if anyone here suffers sinus problems but it seems to be a popular thing among those who suffer from allergies and often when we get a cold/flu we also have sinus troubles.
Here are a few solutions I have found most useful for myself during times of sinus troubles.
1) Alpine gum: For those who can chew gum Alpine gum is a gum that has Eucalyptus and menthol in it. It is a heaven send for myself when my sinus get really bad. The eucalyptus helps clear the sinus cavities so that you can breath normally again via the nose. For those who can't chew gum such as myself or those who can't get this gum I suggest Halls Mentholyptus cough drops. These too do the same thing only are not as strong. Out here we now get Halls gum as well.
2) Chamomile Tea; Yes I suggest this alot to people with illnesses of sinus troubles. I found having allergies that it helps sooth the sinus passages so that you can breath normally. I prefer one called tazo Tea myself but any chamomile will do. I do suggest one not take too much chamomile as it can leave you feeling lethargic if you consume too much. So I usually suggest a cup 3 times a day. I usually take it before bedtime as it also helps me sleep well.
3) Lavender: For thsoe who do not like chamomile try using lavender essentail oil in an oil burner. you add 3 drops of lavender to water and let it burn slowly through the house. Lavender is beneficial in that it helps one to relax and also helps boost the immune system. You can also add 3-5 drops of lavender oil to your bath or use a lavender based bath product. I also keep alvender insense as it helps cleanse the air of any impurities in the home.
4) Hot showers: Yes I have had a few sinus infections and have managed quite well taking a hot shower. I find the steam helps loosen up the mucus membrane and help you expell the sinus buildup causing you discomfort *grins* a hot bath is good if you wish you can also use a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head inahling the steam slowly thrugh the nasal passages. I do the shower trick as I have asthma.
These are a few tips that can help you rather than taking medication or over the counter products for the sinuses. Do keep in mind the herbals like any other medication should be taken as directed on the package also you can build an immunity to them over time so to prevent this use each of these alternating between. You can also use a combination of the above emntioned products.
One more thing
Fpr pain you can use Ibuprofene as it is a antiinflammatory and will help take any swelling away. YOu can also take apirin but it is harsh on the stomache. Tylenol is also good. Do not take tylenol and Ibuprofene together but use one or the other. You may alternate but I suggest only using one or the other as mixing both can lead to problems.
5) Tea tree oil: for those who can find this it acts much in the same way as eucalytus but smells to high heaven LOL it works great but smells bad LOL this also helps relieve sinus discomfort and helps boost the immune system.
Many who suffer allergies find they have a weakend immune system. You can take L Lysine if it is really bad and you get sick frequently. This is a natural occuring enzyme in our body. However for those with imune difficiencies or with lower immune systems due to severe allergies we do not produce it enough so taking this suppliment can help boost our immune system.
Hope this has been helpful tp anyone
